The Dennis DeClark Memorial Fund was established in 2005 to support local charities in the generous manner commemorative of Dennis DeClark. Through various charitable donations and fund-raisers, it is our goal to create and award self-sustaining funds to deserved and needy organizations and individuals, from which consistent monetary resources and scholarships can support their compassionate and necessary work in perpetuity.
We seek recipients based on Dennis' way of life. Dennis devoted the first half of his career working as a counselor for Tri Counties Regional center, helping developmentally disabled children. In that spirit, DDMF's first ever donation was to The de Groot House - a safe haven for terminally ill children run for more than 30 years by Sjany de Groot, a dedicated 80 year old registered nurse, and her small staff. The de Groot House, supported almost entirely on donations, has consistently fought to keep its doors open and its good spirit alive. We hope to help The de Groot House win that fight.
Some of the past recipients from DDMF have included San Luis Obispo Children's Museum, Special Olympics of San Luis County, and Today's Youth Matter.
